Al Sharqiyah North governorate (with a total population of 271,800) occupies an
area of 21,136 km² and consists of six provinces: Al-Qabil (population 23,824), Al-
Mudhaibi (117,691), Bidiya (40,812), Dema Wa Thaieen (26,817), Ibra (57,561),
Wadi Bani Khalid (12,518). It was created on October 2011, when Al Sharqiyah
Region was split into Al Sharqiyah South Governorate and Al Sharqiyah North
Governorate. Ibra is the center of the governorate.

Wadi Al Khoud is one of the largest wadi basins in Oman. Heavy rains form the pools in the wadi. It is located in Wilayat Al Seeb, 20 minutes outside the Governorate of Muscat. Among the activities to do in this area, we can mention the 4*4 driving and sightseeing through archaeological and historical landmarks in Khoud village such as Bait Al Oud, Falaj Abu Bahaya, Falaj Al Sarat, Al Khoud Castle, and Ain Al Sakhna hot springs.

Al Sawadi Beach at Baraka in Al Batina South Governorate is about 70 km away from Muscat and is characterized by beautiful rock islands. There are several aquatic sports on the beach with all the necessary equipment.

The merchants’ houses in Al Mudayrib Village were used as meeting halls for wealthy clans and refuges in times of war. Today, the rooms are used for local ceremonies but the general public is not allowed to use them whenever they want. The best time to visit Al Mudayrib is just before Eid.

Al Fiqayn fort is located in Wilayat Manah and adjacent to Nizwa in Ad Dakhiliya governorate and 160 km away from Muscat. The fort has four storeys and visitors can see surrounding farms and old quarters.

A traditional souq next to the Nizwa Fort is called Nizwa Souq. Its buildings represent both traditional and modern architecture. The best time to visit is from Thursday to Saturday 6 AM-13 PM, 16 PM-10 PM; except on Fridays when it’s open only in the morning. They have a rest and a time for praying from 13 PM to 16 PM. You can find some local industries like handicrafts, daggers, copper, spinning, etc

It was constructed around 1691 by imam Bil’arab bin Sultan and his brother, Saif bin Sultan, and they used it when they visited the area. It is an unusually tall and narrow house, with alternating square and round towers and it was restored in 1991

Bait Na’am

Nizwa Fort castle is one of the largest, most attractive and visited national monuments in Ad Dakhiliya governorate. It is a well-known tourist destination with a historic walking area which was built by Imam Sultan Bin Saif Al Ya'rubi, the second Ya’rubi, in the 1650s, although its underlying structure is related to 12th century. The interesting point is that it was built above an underground stream and it took 12 years to complete

Nizwa Fort Castle

It takes around one hour to drive from Duqm to reach this beautiful beach. It is next to a village by the same name. The village itself is inhabited by fishermen. There are few parking places next to the beach. There are lots of white sands and many crabs running along the beach. Ras Madrakah is a popular point among campers to pitch an overnight tent.

The Jabreen castle (also known as Jabrin) is an impressive castle located in Bahlat near the Jabal Akhdar mountains and Nizwa in Northeastern Oman. This place was built by Yaruba Imam Bil’arab bin Sultan. There is an audio guide of about 25 minutes provided at the entrance of this attraction which you can listen to.
